Mac 2013 – nearly ready to go

Toad is nearly ready for the start on March 1st. All we need to do is load the food and lots of warm clothing.

New spare, spare tyre (courtesy of the lovely people from frogsisland4x4.com)  is on an new alloy found on eBay. The new waffle boards, in tasteful green, are on the roof (well, you never know what to expect on the Mac) and the roof box for the superb OzTent is ready to go.

The annoying little jobs are mostly finished, as it took a while to fix the wire on the switch that turns the courtesy light on when the passenger door is open (only taken 2 years to get around to doing this). The radio is back in – tuned to Radio 2 and Radio 4, and the annoying clunk the passenger window used to make has gone by removing the wind deflectors. I have a feeling that due to the weather the windows will remain firmly closed.

As you can see Toad is ready for the 2013 Mac4x4 decals on the doors, we’ll get these at the start at the headquarters of Britpart.

Obligatory shovel is also being carried, but there’s no room for the kitchen sink

Now supported by Land Rover :)

A while back I spotted on Facebook that Land Rover were about to embark on a new Social Venture – a little bit mysterious, to get more details I had to fill out a form with some details including those relating to Land Rover ownership. A while later I was asked to phone Land Rover and more questions about my experiences of the  Land Rover marque  were asked, further  details were taken and a while later I was contacted telling me I was part of their new Social Venture – Talk Land Rover.

This is were it gets exciting. To welcome the first people into Talk Land Rover, they have arranged a day at Lode Lane to include a factory tour and  Land Rover Driving Experience and this will happen on Thursday 28th Feb, the day before the Mac4x4 so we can pop into Birmingham on the way to the start of the Mac.

The real great news is that while I was sorting attendance at the Talk Land Rover event I explained to the organiser that we were taking part in the Mac4x4 and I’ve just had confirmation that Land Rover have donated a Land Rover Experience Voucher for a Half day Off Road Experience (http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/experience-land-rover/adventure-days/overview/).

We’ll be entering this into the auction that’s held at the Mac4x4 prize giving dinner, so hopefully we’ll boost the funds rasied by Team Toad for Macmillan Cancer Support

What is the Mac4x4?

Just a quick update to the funding front – we’ve now over the £800 mark, it would be great to see the total to go over £1000 before we start in just over a fortnight. So if you want to help, please go to www.justgiving.com/TeamToad2013 where all funds raised go to Macmillan Cancer Support

To illustrate what the Mac4x4 is about here’s a short video of some of Team Toad’s highlights on the 2012 Mac

You’ll see it’s not about speed or racing, it’s about fund raising for Macmillan Cancer Support, and we get to have a bit of fun while raising both funds and awareness of Macmillan. If you want to more information about Macmillan Cancer Support and their work, go to their website - www.macmillan.org.uk/Aboutus/AboutUsHome.aspx

Fundraising update

Team Toad have passed the initial fund raising milestone. To enter the Mac 4×4 we had to commit to raising at least £600 for Macmillan Cancer Support. We’ve gone past this and as of 17:00 today the ammount raised for Macmillan  over £700 – www.justgiving.com/TeamToad2013 for the total. This is due  partly to the support of another one of last year’s corporate sponsors, Web2Rights Ltd, who have donated £300 to Macmillan, so a huge thank you to Web2Rights!

It’s also really great to see the support coming in from colleagues at Plymouth University.  Toad will be on campus over the next few weeks raising awareness of Macmillan and the Mac4x4.

Frogs Island 4×4 support Team Toad

Last week I was made aware that Frogs Island 4×4 had a Facebook page, and it was via this Facebook page that @TeamToad4x4 followed @Frogs4x4 on Twitter.

Andrew from Frogs Island 4×4 asked me via Twitter if there was anything that they could do to help Team Toad in the 2013 Mac 4×4.

As it happens I’ve been looking for another spare tyre since changing to 235/85/16 Mud Terrains, so I asked if they might have a used cheap tyre they could let me have.

They quickly got back to me and said I was in luck and to phone them after the weekend. So, on Monday I gave them a call, not expecting to be offered a brand new tyre free of charge, and it’s being delivered to Plymouth for me to collect next week.

I have to say a huge thank you to the team at Frogs Island, it was very generous of them and saved me a load of time and money.

As we are running Team Toad on a budget I’d been looking for a used tyre, hoping to pick one up for £30-£40. As Frogs Island 4×4 have donated a tyre to Team Toad I’ve donated the tyre budget to Macmillan via www.justgiving.com/TeamToad2013

Mac4x4 2013 start has been announced

The start for the 2013 Mac4x4 has been announced as the Britpart HQ in Shropshire.

A bit of a relief for Team Toad as this only means a 209 mile trip to the start line, half the distance of last year’s journey to the Scottish Borders.

The location of the start is not really important, but the announcement means that the build up to this year’s  Mac 4×4 has started.

We are half way to our initial sponsorship target and the the email from the 2013 Mac4x4 stated that over the past 10 years the event has raised a shade under £900,000 for Macmillan Cancer – if all the teams raised  £108,179.64 in 2013 the event would have raised over £1 million. This has to be a target worth going for.

So, apart from giving Mr Toad a full service we need to raise as much money as possible to see if this years event will push the total past the £1 million mark.

ICO3 Ltd sponsor Team Toad!

Very excited and pleased to announce that for the 2nd year running the great team at ICO3 Ltd have agreed to sponsor Team Toad for the 2013 Macmillan 4×4.

As with all donations 100% goes to Macmillan, so a very big thank you to the ICO3 team.

The Mac4x4 2013

Well, it’s been a few months since we finished the 2012 Mac4x4, I can’t believe we came 17th on our first attempt – purely down to the excellent navigation skills of Anne, and the reliability of Mr Toad.

It was great to raise over double our original target, with over £1250 going directly to MacMillan.

So……we’ve decided to enter again in 2013.

I’ll add more details on the site later but the most important piece of information is that our new JustGiving page is at

We are back!

Sorry about the lack of updates, but there was no mobile signal for most of the MAC and it’s been a bit busy at work since we got back.

I’ll add a full review over the weekend along with pictures, and try and get some video sorted out.

The short version is that Team Toad came 17th from 63 competitors, a result we are very proud of.

The important piece of news is that you can still donate to Macmillan Cancer Support via justgiving.com/teamtoad until the middle of April.

A week to go!

This time next week we’ll be on the way to the start of the 2012 MAC4x4. We will be collecting donations for the next couple of months, so if you’d like to donate to Macmillan Cancer Support please go to our Just Giving page – www.justgiving.com/teamtoad

The final few bits have been bolted on to Mr Toad.
